ROOTED IN CHU SHONG TIN WING CHUN
Effortless Power
Starts With Relaxation
Watch 3 lessons on mindful relaxation, body connection and structure,
and learn how CST Wing Chun develops power without unnecessary tension.
Chu Shong Tin was known for its extraordinary power with very little visible effort, even in his later years.
In the hundred of hours of his footage, what stands out is how he was capable to gain control over his body and affect the opponent (whoever it was)

LESSON 1
Mindful Relaxation and Placing
This lesson explains the difference between ordinary relaxation and mindful relaxation, a core principle in Wing Chun training.
Key Focus
Mindless relaxation collapses
When the body simply goes floppy, the joints compress, posture weakens, and movement becomes less controlled.
Mindful relaxation opens
With awareness and intention, the joints decompress, the spine stays lengthened, and the body remains structurally alive without unnecessary tension.
Placing creates internal support
Rather than resting on external contact or collapsing into the body, placing allows the limbs to hold their shape through alignment, awareness, and release.
Freedom without losing structure
Proper mindful relaxation allows the body to stay light, mobile, and connected while still being able to withstand force.
Practice Focus
Look for a feeling of lightness, openness, and decompression through the joints. Avoid locking, bracing, or resting passively into support.
Main Takeaway
Mindful relaxation is not about becoming loose or weak. It is the ability to stay open, connected, and structurally supported while remaining free to move.
THE METHOD BEHIND THIS TRAINING
01
GRANDMASTER CHU SHONG TIN
Chu Shong Tin (CST) was Ip Man’s 3rd student in Hong Kong. CST trained with him for 14 years and eventually became one of the main teachers in his school.
CST focused on the internal condition behind the movement: relaxation, intention, structure, body organisation and the state of awareness that allows the body to coordinate more naturally and efficiently.
02
SIFU NIMA KING
Sifu Nima King began training Wing Chun in Sydney in 1998. He moved to Hong Kong in 2005 to train directly under CST.
For 9 years, Nima trained up to 6 hours per day with CST, learning his unique approach to principles and mechanics behind the movements.

MINDFUL
WING CHUN
TODAY
AS THE FOUNDER OF MINDFUL WING CHUN AND DEVELOPER OF THE ONLINE SCHOOL
Nima’s work is to make the Chu Shong Tin’s teaching accessible for students around the world.
